The term classic airsoft is used to describe any airsoft items that were produced before the advent of the modern electric guns (AEGs). The term is debatable; the common consensus is that for an airsoft gun to be a "classic" it must have been made before 1995, but there are exceptions. For example, many newer gas guns from companies like Tanaka and Digicon are often called classics, despite many of them being made after 1995. Owning a classic airsoft item is considered a status symbol among those in the airsoft community.
The origins of airsoft
Despite misconceptions that airsoft originated much later, it was actually first played in the late 1970s, stemming from the concept of realistic-looking guns that shot non-lethal projectiles for sporting and simulation purposes. There were guns of this style before airsoft, such as the Mattel "Shootin' Shell" guns of the late 1950s. The US military even tinkered with ideas of this type after World War II. The BB guns that existed before shot metal BBs that could do a lot of damage to a person and in rare cases, kill them. Mattel's guns were a novelty at best though.
Airsoft filled a void. It originated in Japan, where owning real guns was generally illegal. The first manufacturers were long-standing toy companies such as Masudaya, Fujimi, and Matsushiro. These companies decided it would be a good (and profitable) idea to market BB guns that could be safely shot at others in a similar manner to paintball guns, which were also becoming popular at that time. These guns were spring-powered, single-shot weapons and were often very crude in nature. Many used odd, proprietary ammunition, such as the 7 mm "Long Range" ammo some Masudaya guns used, or the soft rubber ammo used in TradeMark's guns. Eventually, it was realized that a standard-size round BB would be cheaper and more efficient to produce. There were a variety of companies making guns during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Daisy enters the fray
The Daisy company had been known for over a century as the premiere producer of BB guns in the US. So in the early 80s, they decided to market airsoft in North America. Up until that time, airsoft was virtually unheard of outside of Japan. Daisy contracted the Maruzen company of Japan to manufacture a line of spring-powered guns to sell in the US. Most of these guns already existed in Japan and were essentially re-packaged for sale in North America. These guns used special BBs loaded into simulated shell casings. The line included:

These guns were as realistic in appearance as an airsoft or model gun had been up until this point, and many anti-gun and anti-violence organizations showed disfavor towards these items in America.

Modern Classics And The BV System
Around 1985, several Japanese airsoft companies began developing guns using the BV, or "Bullet Valve" system. BV used a direct flow of gas from an external tank, usually CO2 or compressed air, to power a mechanism which allowed the guns to fire in a fully automatic mode. Later models also included semi-automatic mode. Some people added "booster tanks," empty air bottles to add to the effect of the air rig. These setups were generally called Flon Rigs.
Companies like JAC and Asahi Firearms led this revolution with Maruzen updating many of their old spring guns with the BV system as well. Asahi and JAC, whom often worked in conjunction with each other, developed airsoft versions of many guns, such as the British Sterling and the M60 machine gun. Other notable guns were Asahi's German MG-34 and their version of the very rare Walther 2000. JAC made many new guns like the Thompson, BAR, and M3 Grease Gun.
Other companies, such as Kokusai, MGC, Toy-Tec, and FTC also made many guns with the BV system.

For this reason, the US military has been using  hybrid trucks and cars for decades; when essential personnel such as group and installation commanders plus re-supply vehicles and other critical equipment run out of gas, lives and the mission could be lost. Hybrid vehicles have the potential to eliminate these problems.

Most of the civilized world depends on cars for personal transportation. Similarly, large trucks are primarily responsible for hauling supplies and food all over the world. These gigantic vehicles not only use huge amounts of gasoline, but their exhaust is also a serious pollutant in the environment. The economical and environmental health of the United States is slowly disintegrating, and unless Americans are willing to make lifestyle changes and support the manufacture of hybrid trucks, large equipment and cars, this disintegration will continue until the very air we all breathe is toxic. Companies that use heavy-duty hybrid trucks are eligible for a large federal tax credit. This alone indicates that the federal government is cognizant of the harm to our health and wallets caused by an over-dependence on gasoline.

Disadvantages of Hybrid Trucks, Cars, and other Vehicles

No type of energy source is without its disadvantages. Older Hybrid trucks and other vehicles have batteries that must be re-charged, which some might find inconvenient because on the average, it takes about three hours to re-charge batteries of this type. A hybrid vehicle's capacity for acceration and climbing is still inferior to that of vehicles powered exclusively by gasoline. Accessories like heaters, radios, CD players and air conditioners drain the battery even more quickly than driving alone. Since battery recharging stations are rare, the owner of the hybrid truck or other vehicle will most likely need to purchase a battery charger for personal use.

No form of transportation is without problems. It is a simple matter of weighing the pros and cons of owning a hybrid vehicle, and making an informed decision.

Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle

The commercial utility cargo vehicle was a response by the United States military to the Humvee and the  Gama Goats  as a more cost effective vehicle available to transport goods, equipment and troops.

There are five vehicle configurations for each vehicle that include cargo, utility, shelter carrier, ambulance and chassis. The Chrysler Corporation's Dodge Division manufactured the vehicles in the late 1970s and early 1980s and then General Motors manufactured the trucks in the late 1980s. The trucks, just like all other  military vehicles , is painted with camouflage pertinent to where the vehicle is being used and some, but not all of them, have a little bit of armor.

These vehicles have been produced as pickup trucks, SUVs and larger cargo trucks. These vehicles have made their way into the lure of vehicle collectors and a lot of them are still on the roads today. They are owned either by former military servicemen or owned by a civilian that just has a love affair for the truck itself.

Some of them are still painted in their original camouflage and some have been painted over and over again by many different owners. The commercial utility cargo vehicle can be driven on normal, everyday roadways but has enough power and agility to be driven off road, like a Jeep, Humvee or other high powered truck.

The commercial utility cargo vehicle has been used in Vietnam, the Gulf War, the Iraq War and the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan. They have also been used for special operations involving National Guardsmen during natural disaster recovery efforts.

These trucks, because they are designed to fight through tough terrain like all pickup trucks, can navigate through flood waters, terrain covered in debris and downed trees. Commercial utility cargo vehicles have been a big help to the military and other armed services in the United States since production and distribution of the vehicle began a couple of decades back.

The majority of the commercial utility cargo vehicles manufactured are named and numbered beginning with the letter 'M' and the numbers begin and end in the 800s. The trucks also come in two wheel and four wheel drive capabilities.

Four wheel drives

M880 - Basic Dodge 4x4 Pickup truck Model.
M881 - M880 fitted with additional 60-amp 24-volt generator.
M882 - M881 fitted with communications equipment.
M883 - M881 fitted with slide-in shelter kit.
M884 - M880 fitted with 100-amp 24-volt generator and slide-in shelter kit with tie-downs.
M885 - M880 fitted with slide-in shelter kit with tie-downs.
M886 - Ambulance model based on M880.
M887 - Maintenance body based on M880.
M888 - Telephone maintenance body based on M880.

Two wheel drives

M890 - 4x2-wheel drive version of the M880.
M891 - M890 fitted with additional 60-amp 24-volt generator.
M892 - M890 fitted with additional 60-amp 24-volt generator and communications kit.
M893 - 2-wheel drive ambulance version.

General Motors began manufacturing these trucks in the late 1980s and continues to manufacture them today.

Combat Haulage - Lorries in the British Army

The Royal Logistics Corps is the arm of the  British Army Trucks  that deals with supply, rail and road haulage and distribution. The Army would be lost without adequate supplies, both in peace and wartime, and the Corps is their link to ammunition, essentials and medical supplies. The lorries that they and other specialists use are the backbone of any Army operation. We take a look at the vehicles some of the world's bravest lorry drivers use.

Close Support Tanker

Like many of the  Army's vehicles and tanks , the Close support tanker does exactly what it says on the tin. Less a lorry than a tanker truck, it comes in three variants - none of which are your run of the mill road haulage vehicles: the 15,000-litre Tactical Air Refueller and the 18,000 and 20,000-litre Close Support Tanker (one for fuel and the other water). Other lorry drivers should take note not to mess with it if seen on the motorway - it sports enhanced, blast-proof armour and can be fitted with a 7.62mm machine gun.

All Terrain Mobility Platform

The All Terrain Mobility Platform, or ATMP, is the modern equivalent of the Second World War Bren Gun Carrier. Though it looks like a quad bike with more attitude, the ATMP is a front line logistics vehicle. Its' larger liquid, goods and road haulage brothers and sisters might be in danger of looking down their noses at the ATMP due to its diminutive size, but it excels at what it's designed for. It can carry deceptively heavy loads, is amphibious, and is most often used by light or airborne regiments in areas where lorries aren't practical. And like many army logistics vehicles, it isn't defenceless; it can be upgraded with the GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun) which fires 7.62mm rounds at a rate of 750 a minute. A small but very powerful haulage vehicle.

Motorcycles

You wouldn't think motorbikes would be used in the British Army, but they prove excellent for courier services and document delivery. But once again, these aren't the usual motorbikes. Specially modified Harley Davidson MT350Es and Honda R250s are used, increasing the load a bike can take as well as having a special pannier for the SA80 infantry rifle.

Heavy Equipment Transporter

The Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) is one of the largest available types of road haulage the Army employs. Challenger II main battle tanks don't get to the war zone on their own, and the HET is the vehicle that moves them from place to place. They are also used as relocation and haulage transporters for immobilised tanks, taking them from the war zone to areas where the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers can re-track them and get them back into working order. The HET can move a huge amount of weight (72 tonnes in total) thanks to its Caterpillar C18 turbocharged diesel engine. It dwarfs all other forms of road haulage, and embodies the pride and might of the British Army and her logistics and engineering corps.

Military Hybrid Trucks to Undergo Tests

Two new hybrid electric  trucks  developed for the U.S. Army are being tested for operational service and this is according to UQM Technologies, Inc. The said hybrid trucks were developed by Armor Holdings using UQM's electric propulsion technology. The tests are being conducted at Ft. Lewis in Washington.

Before the two hybrids underwent the Military Utility Assessment Testing, they have already been tested at the U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Grounds first. The hybrid trucks performed well in the nearly 3,000 miles of testing and therefore all of them passed for the MUA tests.

The hybrid trucks are powered by electric motors developed by UQM which can produce as much as 120 kW. The development of the vehicles is in connection with the U.S. Army's Future Tactical Truck System or FTTS. The program aims to create a cutting edge tactical wheeled vehicle which will give the U.S. Army quite an advantage in theaters around the world. The use of hybrid technology is also a response to the administration's energy independence policy.

Chris Chambers, the Vice President of Programs and Business Development of Armor Holdings' Tactical Vehicle System Division, has this to say about their partnership with UQM in developing the new hybrid trucks for the U.S. Army: 'The MSV design and development exercise has overcome many of the hybrid technology challenges this class of vehicle presents. Our work with UQM puts us at the forefront of this area and we are particularly pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Army as they scope their potential future  tactical vehicle  requirements.'

I suppose you've sent here because you could not find an article Pinzgauer. It is a niche brand that most here do not know very well that in fact own (probably never has heard of). Maybe you should check out a regional club or forum just for owners Pinzgauer. You can also add details like engine / cut a what you hear. For example, I saw soft and hard top major carriers with troops in the examination of the engine size, efficiency, etc. make a big difference without doubt the mileage. HTH
